Xia Ren travels through time to the Tang Dynasty and is immediately met with suspicion from Li Shimin. It is the first year of the Zhenguan era. Although Li Shimin has already ascended the throne and become the emperor, Li Yuan still refuses to leave the Taiji Palace, forcing Li Er to remain in the Eastern Palace to conduct official business. Xia Ren stands over six feet tall, giving Li Er the impression that he looks rather heroic and extraordinary. When asked whether he claims to have traveled through time, Xia Ren explains that he comes from a thousand years in the future.
