Chen Dashan tragically dies in an accident and is reborn as his family's frail old yellow ox. He witnesses his wife, Li Yumei, make off with his relief funds and remarry while his body is still warm, teaming up with her wicked natal family and greedy uncle to throw his elderly mother, Chen Guixiang, and young daughter, Suisui, out onto the street. Filled with grief and indignation, Dashan obtains the heritage of the Ox God, vowing to use his bovine body to shield his family from wind and rain. Relying on his lifetime of experience and the divine power of bloodline evolution, he reclaims barren land, lifts heavy timber of ten thousand catties, and carves out a spring to save the orchard in desperate straits, repeatedly shattering the encirclement and harassment of his ex-wife's new lover and greedy relatives, exchanging it all for vast money and grain to build a large brick-and-tile house for his mother and young daughter.
