After unexpectedly seeing floating comments, Shen Wanling discovers that she is a short-lived cannon-fodder character in a novel, and that the handsome slave before her, Wei Ji, is actually the male lead who will become a vengeful regent wielding immense power at court. Her legitimate elder sister gives the impoverished Wei Ji to her as a reward, while the comments frantically warn her that approaching him means certain death. Refusing to follow the script, she binds Wei Ji to herself with a marriage contract, throwing the original story's tangled love and hatred into chaos. After breaking free from her cannon-fodder fate and clearing up the grudges surrounding her birth, she changes her name to Chen Jinyu and sets off alone to enjoy her freedom. Yet she cannot escape the regent, who has already fallen for her. Together, they defy fate and find their way to each other.
