Yang Zhan, the Great Xia War God, has become so powerful and accomplished that he threatens the emperor. The emperor secretly poisons him with the extraordinary Wangchuan poison and demotes him to prison warden of the Heavenly Prison, where he is kept under house arrest. There, he meets Chen Liner, the imprisoned Holy Maiden of the Phoenix God Cult, and Li Zhizhu, a disciple of the Heavenly Medicine Sect. He learns that only by gathering the seven Dragon Blood Jade pieces scattered throughout the world can he completely eliminate the poison in his body. Using the Heavenly Prison as his base, he successively foils the Third Prince's attempted coup and the Martial King's conspiracy with the barbarians to invade the border. As he searches for the jade fragments, Bi Lian, an elder of the Phoenix Clan imprisoned in the Ice Prison, repeatedly risks her life to save him. In the end, Yang Zhan gathers all seven jade pieces, completely cures the poison, and breaks through to the Saint Martial Realm. After restoring peace to the realm, he refuses the throne and instead guards Great Xia's borders as its Grand General.
