On a cold snowy night, Granny Lin, an herb gatherer, saves the spiritual wolf Zi Sanniang and her wolf cubs from a hunter in a ruined temple. The human and the wolf forge a bond of kindness, and Zi Sanniang produces a centuried spiritual ginseng to cure Granny Lin's seriously ill granddaughter. Afterwards, Zi Sanniang guards her silently, standing with Granny Lin against the greedy Wealthy Zhao and the fierce bandit Zuo Shanhuhu. This legend of requiting kindness that transcends species draws to a close, as the spiritual wolf acknowledges Granny Lin as her adoptive mother, and the two mothers together guard the mountain village in peace across the years.
