Chen Zhongsen, a wealthy young master from Beijing's elite circle, bets a house with his friends that he can win over Xia Xinju, a poor student, within one week. When Chen Zhongsen publicly confesses his feelings for her in front of his friends, Xia Xinju claims that his buddies had secretly told her about the bet long ago. Furious, Chen Zhongsen demands that she reveal the name of the traitor. Instead, Xia Xinju comforts him, saying, "Forget it. We can't ruin a friendship over a woman." But putting the arrogant rich young master in his place is merely a side benefit. Xia Xinju's real plan is to use this little setup as the opening chapter in which a seemingly innocent girl sets the wheels of her destiny in motion.
