Reporter Shen Du disguises himself as someone destined to join the sect and accepts an invitation to enter the Qingyun Sect, secretly investigating this money-making scam masquerading as a cultivation sect. Armed with a voice recorder, he cautiously tests the waters and exposes the truth behind the supposed spiritual light and immortal aura, which are nothing more than mechanical props. He meets Su Wan, who is trapped there, as well as Elder Zhou, who has been lying low in secret since losing his son. The group covers for one another, gathering hard evidence of the sect's fraud amid surveillance cameras and constant danger. As Shen Du navigates the traps laid by the villain Xuandu, he risks his life to record confessions and waits for the right moment to expose this fraudulent immortal sect once and for all.
