In a year of severe drought, her mother is divorced and abandoned by her scoundrel father. Taking four-and-a-half-year-old Sui Sui and her two-year-old little sister, she seeks refuge with her maternal grandfather's family. But the entire family is forced onto a perilous journey to escape famine, with almost no hope of survival. When her little sister is on the verge of starving to death, Sui Sui desperately knocks her head against the ground and prays for help. Her blood accidentally activates the longevity lock hanging around her neck, transporting her to a bustling modern-day night market! There, she meets Lin Feng, a down-and-out stall owner who has hit rock bottom in life. Tempted by the delicious food, Sui Sui nevertheless holds firmly to the lesson that she must never take anything without paying. She works desperately hard in exchange for a life-saving plate of egg fried rice.
