Architectural designer Su Wantang temporarily left the workplace for fifteen years to care for her seriously ill mother-in-law, yet she always steadfastly maintained her professional ideals. Together with her partner, she founded Yuntang Architecture, integrating Eastern aesthetics into modern design, winning recognition from international groups and bringing Chinese design to the world. After marital changes, she legally protected her rights, started afresh, and established positions to help women who left the workplace return to it. Her ex-husband Gu Chengze also reflected on his responsibilities amidst setbacks and engaged in honest labor.
