The top scorer in the national college entrance examination turns down admission to a prestigious university and resolutely returns to his impoverished hometown. Facing barren mountains and widespread skepticism, he leads the villagers in building terraced fields, growing medicinal herbs, and raising earthworms to improve the soil. Step by step, he transforms the mountain behind their village into a "green bank." Starting with his own investment and eventually getting the entire village involved, he overcomes accusations and investigations to make his village a provincial model. In just seven years, he brings hope to the poorest village in the region. He makes no grand speeches; he simply gets things done, one hoe at a time. This is a story about faith, the land, and perseverance. As long as someone is willing to take the lead, even the most barren soil can yield mountains of gold and silver. A tribute to all those who put down roots in the countryside and quietly work the land to show others the way.
