When the national college entrance examination was reinstated in 1977, it completely changed the fate of Lin Guoqiang, an ordinary welder at the Dabie Mountain Machine Tool Factory. Born into a poor family and burdened with family responsibilities, Lin Guoqiang refuses to spend his entire life welding agricultural machinery parts and resolutely embarks on the journey toward his college dreams. Studying by the light of an oil lamp and practicing tirelessly in the workshop, he withstands the pressure and overcomes the challenge of starting from scratch. Through sheer perseverance, he earns admission to university and specializes in welding. After graduation, he heads to the Gobi Desert, joining the front lines of China's space program. There, he overcomes countless welding challenges, using his welding torch to build national treasures such as rockets and spacecraft. Rising from a poor family's ordinary welder to a master craftsman serving a great nation, he uses the college entrance examination as his ladder and welds his way toward China's very own ocean of stars.
