Wei Yuan, the heir of the Duke of Wei's estate, is well-versed in the arts of military command and statecraft. Usually pretending to be an idle playboy, he conceals his extraordinary strategic mind. After an unexpected brush with danger, he inadvertently reveals a glimpse of his true abilities, which catches the eye of his grandfather. To keep a low profile and protect himself, he befriends martial arts experts and receives guidance from renowned masters to hone his cultivation. With his elders in poor health, the political situation in the imperial court growing complex, and hidden perils surrounding the imperial examinations, Wei Yuan restrains his posture to deceive others while secretly gathering strength, investigating past events of his ancestors, steadily resolving various crises, guarding his family with wisdom, and revealing his grand ambitions.
