Lin Zhou of Fengyuan Group arrives in a village with a contract to acquire its terraced fields, tempting the villagers with promises of high signing fees. The village elder, Chen Shoutian, appears timid and evasive, but secretly joins forces with Wang Guixiang to drive up the price and stall negotiations. Li Laogen pretends to be confused to disrupt the deal, while Chen Shoutian sends his grandson, Chen Xiaoshu, to pose as a traitor and discover the other side's true intentions. The two sides engage in a tug-of-war for three months. Lin Zhou raises his offer six times, signs contracts only to face reversals, and repeatedly hits dead ends, never realizing that the entire village is acting along with him. When Mr. Zhang from the group arrives in person, Chen Shoutian reveals land deeds dating back to the Guangxu era, records of rice seeds, and a register documenting the terraced fields' heritage. With a bag of freshly harvested rice, he persuades the company to withdraw with dignity. Lin Zhou finally realizes his mistake and apologizes, while Mr. Zhang leaves impressed and respectful. In the end, grandfather and grandson farm the terraces together, and the villagers celebrate a shared bountiful harvest.
