Reborn into a new life, Su Yanyan has no intention of repeating the mistakes of her previous life. When her mother tries the same old trick of making her give up a promising marriage so her cousin from another branch of the family can take her place, Yanyan chooses to expose her mother's affair with her uncle outright. She then swiftly cuts ties with her family and chooses her own path: becoming a child bride in the Zhao household. However, the Zhao family is even poorer than she imagined. Her father-in-law has mysteriously disappeared, her mother-in-law is all bluster but little substance, and her handsome husband is otherwise completely useless. On top of that, there is a whole group of younger brothers and sisters crying out to be fed. To keep this entire family alive, Yanyan has no choice but to put her old skills to use again. She grabs a woodcutter's knife and heads up the mountain, then rolls up her trousers and wades into the river.
