Lu Ming is a veterinarian at Four-Legged Clinic, a small practice in an urban village. He charges very little for treating cats and dogs, provides free care for strays, and never pressures neighborhood residents to pay their debts. After losing a birthday party game, he draws a penalty card and is forced to attend a blind date at the Yunding Private Banquet Hall in place of his best friend, Gu Xiaobei. His prospective match is Shen Zhiwei, general manager of the Chongyi Group. Lu Ming initially intends to ruin the match, but at the dinner table, Shen Zhiwei's mother, Ms. Ming, tries to drive him away with a 300,000-yuan check. Refusing to play along with her expectations, he instead tells her that the money should be spent treating the Shen family's elderly cat, Taihou. Based on its symptoms, he also determines that Taihou has reached stage three chronic kidney disease.
