The hunter woman Shen Qingtang is known for her fierce reputation. Marrying into the Lu family as a secondary wife, she rips up step-daughter Xiaoman's indenture contract right as she steps through the door, fighting against the biased, blood-sucking in-laws. No longer letting the second branch blindly sacrifice, she takes her husband Lu Huaijin hunting to make a living, forcing the weak Lu Huaijin to straighten his spine to protect his wife and daughter and resume his studies. Facing older brother Lu Huairen's rumors and imperial examination framing, Shen Qingtang collects evidence to strike back, getting the other party's academic rank revoked. Lu Huaijin studies hard and passes the imperial examination as the top scholar. The once notoriously ill-famed step-mother protects Xiaoman until she grows up safely, and the family earns a stable and decent life with their own hands.
