Netherfire Eye is a folk-supernatural mystery mini-series. Eighteen-year-old Li Jianling accidentally awakens a Yin Eye after a broken incense burner injures his left eye, granting him the ability to see and exterminate ghosts. A wisp of lingering soul called Wumian is attached to a copper coin left behind by his grandfather. Each time Wumian saves him, the writing on the coin fades a little more. When elderly villagers begin dying one after another with smiles on their faces, Li Jianling investigates and discovers that the culprit is Yan Xiaoniang, the Ghost Hooked Smile, who specializes in hooking the souls of the elderly. Behind her lie an ancient locust tree and the Blood-Eyed Madam. To break the deadlock, he joins forces with his ghost-seeing friend Zhao Dazhu and Sun Banxian to set up a double-bait trap, using himself as bait to lure the ghost into the open.
