Qiu Ning is abandoned by her ex-husband, He Ci'an, who divorces her under the pretext of impending demolition compensation. She then marries Pan Dajun, the village's so-called "fool." Pan Dajun suffered psychological damage as a child after witnessing his mother being humiliated, but he has a sincere and kind heart. The investigation rules it legitimate self-defense, but Pan Dajun must undergo inpatient treatment in a closed facility. A year and a half later, Pan Dajun recovers and is discharged, reuniting with his family of four, while He Ci'an is left with high-level paraplegia, suffering the consequences of his own actions.
