Wu Xin, the young master of a tavern, only wants to make easy money, take life as it comes, and enjoy his freedom. But a bizarre murder case draws him into the officialdom of Nan Tang. Six county magistrates have died in succession within six months, and no one in the entire court dares to take the post. The emperor issues an imperial decree appointing this unqualified young man, who loves sleeping in, as county magistrate. No one expects him to reform the county office, recover unpaid taxes from powerful local families, promote commerce, build schools and medical clinics, and train a powerful army. He transforms a poor county into the most talked-about county in the realm. Yet his growing wealth and fame attract attacks from provincial inspectors, Prince Lu, and even hired killers from the martial world. Just how far will this seemingly carefree little county magistrate take Nan Tang?
