Underworld bailiffs come to arrest Li Qiuyue, whose lifespan has long since expired, puzzled as to how she has managed to live for over five hundred years. Everyone assumes she has stolen others' lifespans to extend her own, until the chief personally arrives, opens the Book of Life and Death, and uncovers the past. Five hundred years ago, during a monstrous flood, a twenty-year-old Li Qiuyue sacrificed her life to save hundreds of villagers; moved by this virtue, Heaven granted her an extended lifespan. Throughout these long years, she never enjoyed blessings and longevity alone, but consistently aided the poor, cared for children, and silently guarded the village. When the flood strikes once more, she leads the villagers in fighting the disaster and rescue efforts. With the storm calmed and her merits fulfilled, she finally lets go of her attachments and departs in peace, leaving the village no longer dependent solely on her protection.
