Meng Wanqiu, a powerful figure from the Underworld, returns to life in another person's body and becomes the legitimate daughter of a general's household. Armed with the merit-based system of the Qiankun Hall, she begins a daily routine of hunting ghosts and punishing scoundrels in the capital, using talismans to subdue evil spirits. While joining forces with Prince Ouyang Lin of the Purification Bureau to investigate cases, she unexpectedly discovers that her maternal grandfather's Song family, which disappeared eleven years ago, was actually wiped out in a horrific massacre. The truth gradually emerges: the Song family did not simply disappear. The family's traitor, Liu Cheng, conspired with Xing Mu, an evil cultivator from the Southern Sheng Kingdom, to turn all seventy-eight members of the family into living corpses. They were sealed beneath the sources of waterways throughout the Great Ling Dynasty, forming an evil formation designed to curse the nation's fortune. Burning with fury, Meng Wanqiu joins Ouyang Lin on a journey to find her relatives and exact revenge.
