By the riverbank, the poor carpenter Han Shoushan rescues the dying Kirin cub Xiao Zhao, and is entrusted with its adoption. Bearing the Kirin bloodline, Xiao Zhao is regarded as ominous by the villagers, repeatedly facing suspicion and frame-ups. Unable to bear seeing the child wronged, Han Shoushan befriends the upright mountain patrol officer Pei Zheng. Together, the three trace the clues, uncovering a sealed, dusty case from eighteen years ago where Dan Ji was framed, and jointly resolving the underground fire crisis of the North Mountain Fengquan eruption. Rumors finally scatter and prejudices collapse, as they guard their original intentions and protect a measure of kindness and justice in this world.
