Li Xiaochen, a good-for-nothing disciple of the Qingyun Sect, accidentally obtains the Heaven-Defying Skill, which allows him to gain others' cultivation simply by lying flat. The elder of the Qingyun Sect sends Li Xiaochen down the mountain to gain experience, just as foreign demonic cultivators lead an army to invade the human realm. The outer disciples of Qingyun join forces to prop up a barrier in bitter endurance, when the young Li Xiaochen and his spiritual companion, a giant black-maned bear, rush to the rescue. After a battle in an ancient town temporarily repels the demonic bandits, the two pursue the enemy to the chaotic stone flats on the outer perimeter of the Demon Abyss, engaging in a life-or-death close-quarters combat with a demonic commander. Li Xiaochen deploys the Heaven-Defying Skill to devour demonic essence, fighting through blood all the way to intercept the Demon Abyss army, desperately holding the human defense line and stopping the demonic calamity from spreading across the world.
