Chen Liye runs an honest food stall at a construction site, selling affordable meals. Out of kindness, he teaches his childhood friend, Ma Zhiqiang, his cooking skills to help him escape poverty. Unexpectedly, Ma repays his kindness with betrayal, colluding with the foreman to deliberately slash prices and steal customers. He even uses inferior ingredients and illegal additives to cheat the workers, and goes so far as to poison Chen Liye's soup to frame him. In the end, Ma suffers the consequences of his own actions and goes to prison. Even after his release, he refuses to change and attempts to set fire to Chen's stall in revenge. However, after witnessing Chen Liye steadfastly uphold his principles late one night, he finally breaks down in remorse. Chen Liye responds to hatred with kindness and helps him return to his hometown for a fresh start.
