In 1988, Yimeng mountain village girl Liu Li was deceived by her first love Nie Yuan, and ventured alone into the county town carrying her pain. Relying on her sewing skills to find a storefront and start a small shop, with the support of teacher Yu Liwei, Liu Yanxia and others, she withstood emotional entanglements, capital shortages, and malicious shutdowns. Liu Li no longer handed her destiny over to men, but instead organized fellow villagers for contract processing, vied for policies and orders, and led a group of ordinary women to lift themselves out of poverty with their own hands. After experiencing family changes, tests of her identity, and life-and-death choices, she turned the small sewing shop into a garment company, reaped equal and firm love as well as a reunited family, and ultimately became a recognized poverty-alleviation pacesetter in the county, driving her fellow villagers to prosperity.
