He is a lowly border soldier forgotten by the imperial court, and she is the descendant of a general's family. A secret order draws him into the dark undercurrents of imperial power. To keep her safe, he hides his name and blocks open attacks and hidden arrows for her. When war fires rise at the border, he defends the city bathed in blood; when treacherous officials run rampant at court, she breaks the deadlock with her wisdom. From entrusting each other with life and death to standing side by side, what they guard is not only a city, but the lights of ten thousand homes behind them. One military order, half a lifetime in the army, in exchange at last for a land unharmed and peace for all people.
