Chen Feng soul-travels to the Da Zhen Dynasty, where he is used as a substitute and scapegoat by the true crown prince to cover up the latter's impotence. Relying on his secret agent skills and modern knowledge, Chen Feng stages an epic counter-attack, killing the true crown prince to seize the crown prince's position. The Third Prince, Chen Ying, plots against him, suspecting that Chen Feng is a substitute and repeatedly attempting to expose him, but Chen Feng cleverly muddles through using the blood-drop paternity test. The suspicious and callous Emperor Chen Tianlan, though Chen Feng's father, views him merely as a pawn to check the Third Prince. Chen Feng allies with the crown princess to seize the imperial throne together, step by step becoming a thorn in the side of those coveting imperial power.
