Xia Ren transmigrates into an ancient farming family. His father and older brothers are all burly, imposing men who are constantly misunderstood by those around them. With little choice, he buries himself in his studies and puts his intelligence to work. His poetry becomes famous throughout the countryside, his improved farming tools benefit the common people, and his braised-meat business gradually builds the family's fortune. He rises through the imperial examinations to become the Grand Secretary, while his father and brothers remain his steadfast support. The court officials who once looked down on him eventually become thoroughly convinced of his abilities.
