Erer goes out to learn the craft of planting wood ear mushrooms and returns to the barren Wood Ear Village. The southern slope behind the village has been abandoned for many years, and the villagers only plant miscellaneous grains, depending on the weather for food. Erer proposes planting wood ear mushrooms, but is opposed by Uncle Er, who believes there is no market path to sell them. Erer insists on trial planting, building sheds, preparing ingredients and bagging, sterilizing and inoculating the slope with Ashi and Daniu. After enduring pests and rainy weather, they finally harvest wood ear mushrooms, dry them, make sauce, mix them cold, use them as stuffing, and make candied preserves, opening up sales channels, leading the whole village to turn the barren slope into a wood ear orchard, and making the fragrance of wood ear mushrooms float all over the mountain village.
