Lin Shuiyao, born with a natural affinity for birds and beasts and carrying a unique fragrance, takes the place of her sister who was injured while gathering firewood, marrying into the Cheng family as a bride meant to bring auspicious luck to the frail and sickly scholar Cheng Yanchong. Her singular scent gradually alleviates Cheng Yanchong's congenital chronic illness. After entering the household, Lin Shuiyao proves wise and perceptive, smoothing over conflicts between the family's sisters-in-law, seizing business opportunities as the New Year approaches, starting a business selling couplets and small items, and even rescuing the wandering boy Lin Batian. Working together with one heart, the couple leads the entire family to make an honest living through their craft, encounters a fine doctor to find the right prescription, and allows the once-dismissed lucky bride to lead her family to industrious prosperity and a harmonious, fulfilling life.
