In a southern mountain village in the 1980s, shortly after his grandfather's burial, Lu Ye is pressured by his family to divide the household. All the family property goes to his eldest brother, while the debts fall on him, leaving him with nothing but a dilapidated stone house. By chance, Lu Ye discovers a hunting trail map hidden inside his grandfather's old crossbow. He ventures alone into Duanhun Ridge, braving countless dangers as he hunts and gathers game to repay his debts. His elder brother steals the map and recklessly enters the mountains, triggering a disaster when he encounters an avalanche. Lu Ye provides the elders with their monthly living expenses but stands firm and refuses to repay his brother's debts. Through his own hard work, he wins back the hunting grounds.
