Chen Ling, a rural college graduate, quits his job and returns to his village, where he unexpectedly gains the ability to understand animal speech. To raise money for his mother's medical expenses, he takes his canine brothers, Da Huang and Erha, into the mountains to gather medicinal herbs and mushrooms. He repeatedly discovers rare mountain treasures and exposes his biological uncle's scheme of passing off inferior goods as premium products, becoming a rising star in the mountain-goods market. He then turns to reservoirs and the open sea, braves Ghost Gate Reef, and establishes an aquaculture cooperative. After outsmarting unscrupulous forces monopolizing the docks and cold-storage facilities, he builds a thriving mountain-and-sea industry, wins the heart of his beloved, and becomes the richest man through mountain foraging and coastal harvesting.
