TCM attending physician Wang Lin time-travels into a universally despised gambler in 1978, who domestic-abuses his wife and daughter and is laden with debts. Relying on the medicine-identification skills learned in his past life, he disciplines ruffians and wins back the hearts of his wife and daughter. At the village clinic, he treats critically ill patients and causes a sensation. From then on, picking herbs on the mountains and teaching villagers to cultivate them gives the barefoot doctor a sense of confidence, turning the poor mountain village into a medicinal herb base. When the first batch of medicinal herb money arrives, watching his wife and daughter timidly hand over warm porridge, he finally warms people's hearts in this era.
