When good-for-nothing parents give birth to an A-student daughter, the style goes completely off the rails. Zhang Biao, with his bleached hair and tattooed arms, opens a repair shop; Li Hongying, with her red hair and fiery temper, opens a mahjong parlor; yet their daughter Zhang Xiaoman is ranked first in her grade year after year, wins Olympiad gold medals, and places second in the province in science to enter Tsinghua and Peking University. So as not to disgrace their genius daughter, the couple grit their teeth, turn over a new leaf by opening a steamed bun shop, learn to read, and practice speeches for parent-teacher conferences, being pushed all the way by their daughter's excellence to live as decent people.
