In the frozen seas of the northern frontier, fisherman Lin Che uses his extraordinary ability to listen to the ice and discern underwater currents to help his older brother, Lin Kai, catch a priceless king icefin salmon. Yet when it comes time to divide the profits, he receives only a meager reward. Clashing over principles and profits, Lin Che sells his reward to buy an old, battered fishing boat and heads out to sea alone. Together with his companions, he braves the dangerous frozen waters, facing constant sabotage from his own brother, Lin Kai, as well as the aggressive entry of outside investors. Determined to stay true to himself, Lin Che sets out to build a successful business of his own.
