At one hundred years old, Chu Nan seeks the path to immortality and raises three adopted sons. At the Ascension Ceremony, all three unexpectedly reveal spiritual roots, yet they turn their backs on the kindness of the adoptive father who raised them. Only his adopted daughter, Chu Shuang, possesses a Heavenly Spiritual Root and insists on bringing him into the immortal sect. With no spiritual roots of his own and his lifespan nearly exhausted, Chu Nan can only serve as a menial laborer in the medicinal herb garden. However, with the mysterious Jade Purification Bottle left behind by his beloved, Xu Nanzhi, he condenses spiritual liquid to forcibly forge a five-element mixed spiritual root, neutralizes pill poison, and subdues an insect king. As Elder Sun Buku of Hundred Herbs Peak plots to use him as a drug-testing subject and his former adopted sons repeatedly persecute him, Chu Nan carefully plans every move, using his worldly business acumen to fight the dangers of the immortal sect. In the end, he defies fate, rises from the weakest mixed spiritual root, and steps onto the path to immortality.
