Zhou Hai, a five-star head chef, is stripped of his position and driven out of the industry by his apprentice, Zhang Hao. With nowhere else to turn, he sets up a boxed-meal stall at the night market, offering all-you-can-eat meals for just 15 yuan. Using state-banquet-level culinary skills, he cooks steaming, home-style dishes that win over the stomachs of working-class people. Zhang Hao bribes suppliers, smashes his kitchen equipment, maliciously reports him, and even pays off judges in an attempt to destroy his career. But Zhou Hai has hundreds of loyal customers, fellow workers, and fellow stall owners standing behind him. In the final, Zhang Hao presents a lavish dish called "Splendid Mountains and Seas," while Zhou Hai prepares nothing more than a humble bowl of "The Many Flavors of Life." The judges rise to their feet, and the entire audience is moved to tears. Craftsmanship should not be defined by social class, and the warmth of everyday life will always matter more than polished self-interest.
