A craftsman of the Xiangshan woodworking tradition has upheld his oath for thirty years, refusing to take on dishonest work. But when his son develops leukemia and urgently needs money for surgery, he smashes a Panlong wooden carving at the factory and is forced to break his vow and step in to restore it. Using the long-lost techniques of live mortise-and-tenon joinery and inlaid wirework, he transforms something seemingly worthless into a masterpiece, stunning everyone at an exhibition. After enduring numerous hardships, including being fired and threats from an illegal workshop, he takes responsibility for all of his son's medical expenses and invites the craftsman to oversee the factory, safeguarding the traditional art of mortise-and-tenon woodworking.
