To cut labor costs, newly appointed manager Wang Qiang publicly fires Old Chen, a veteran technician with ten years of experience, and instead puts his inexperienced subordinates in positions of trust. The two violate regulations and exceed their authority, damaging an imported core piece of equipment worth millions. Rather than admitting their mistakes, they maliciously shift the blame onto Old Chen and insultingly offer him just 500 yuan to return and fix it. Thanks to his exclusive repair skills, Old Chen is hired at a high price by Director Zhao as technical director. He secures major client orders and recruits skilled workers, establishing a technological monopoly. Abandoned by everyone, Wang Qiang ultimately goes bankrupt after paying enormous breach-of-contract penalties, suffering the bitter consequences of his arrogance and inexperience.
