Qinghe, a poor herb-gathering girl from an impoverished family, comes to the riverbank to find food for her seriously ill mother. She first releases a large fish, then accidentally discovers a golden divine dragon severely injured by trapped dragon spikes. Knowing the poisonous spikes are dangerous, she still risks pulling out the spikes and gathering herbs to heal its wounds, forging a good bond with the divine dragon from then on. Later, the Zhang family repeatedly persecutes Qinghe and her mother in order to seize the divine dragon, while the divine dragon steps in to protect them time and time again, not only curing Qinghe's mother but also helping the villagers find water sources and purify the poisonous river. Years later, Qinghe grows into a herb-gathering woman who saves people and helps the world, and the bond between humans and the divine dragon continues ever since.
