Twenty-three-year-old pig butcher Xu Jingjing takes in a husband, as the village chief brings back an amnesiac handsome young man whom she names Xu Dashan and marries. In reality, Dashan is Xuan Yin, the crown prince who lost his memory after an assassination attempt and was hiding in the countryside. After the wedding, Xuan Yin recovers his memory and quietly returns to the capital to ascend the throne following the sudden collapse of the former emperor. Xu Jingjing follows her remarried mother to the capital, enters the palace selection by a twist of fate, and is crowned empress on the spot by Xuan Yin. When Li Xiucai, who had broken off his engagement in the past, causes trouble at court to expose her background as a daughter of a pig butcher, Xuan Yin fiercely protects his beloved wife, uncovers the treasonous conspiracy of the empress dowager and the ninth prince, and ultimately Xu Jingjing securely holds the position of empress as a pig-butchering wife, staying with the emperor for a lifetime.
