Sixty-year-old Chen Haiwa guards a thirty-year-old old certificate of deposit, which is compensation for land ceding back then, originally intended to be left for his son to start a family. To gather his son's engagement expenses, he sells his old house and orchard, but his son disbelieves the certificate's value, impulsively tears up the document, and drives him out of the house. Chen Haiwa, wandering in a strange place, is cared for by Lin Xiaoxiao, a noodle shop girl. After the certificate matures, staff come to the house for redemption. Chen Haiwa draws a clear line with his son, recognizes Lin Xiaoxiao as his adopted daughter, reclaims the orchard to build an agricultural science park, leads the fellow villagers to wealth, and firmly guards the promise in the years.
