I'm Su Ruan. I grew up in the picturesque water towns of Jiangnan, but made a bold decision to travel all the way to Tuta in the far northwest to teach at the local town school. Gazing at the vast desert, solitary columns of smoke, snow-capped mountains, and winding rivers, and meeting the simple, kind-hearted locals, I unexpectedly found peace in my heart. I carefully prepared my lessons, visited families, and shared what I had learned with this land. When people asked whether I regretted my decision, I simply smiled and shook my head.
