In the Republican-era Beijing gate, the Gu family is at the center of a storm. Facing merchant setups, dock arson plots, and bully oppression, Military Governor Gu Tingchuan insists on investigating the truth and upholding justice. His wife Shen Manqing loves and hates boldly, never backing down when encountering injustice. The members of the Gu family work together with one heart to expose scams, defeat villainous forces, and witness the hardships of the street commoners. Not only do they solve immediate difficulties, but they also convert the sealed casino into a textile factory, establish a great charity hall, and give impoverished elderly people food to eat, work to do, and hope for the future. Amidst turbulent times, a family uses their sense of duty to guard their conscience, letting kindness illuminate the Beijing gate.
