In 1992, Yuhe County, Northeast China. 26-year-old Lin Qiuhe works as a chef in the county textile factory cafeteria. When the dinner window suddenly closes, her income drops by nearly half. At home, there is her mother Zhao Guifen, who earns small money by sewing and mending, and her younger brother Lin Xiangyang, who is in his senior year of high school and has outstanding grades. Lin Qiuhe has no background, nor any chance of overnight wealth, only a pair of hands honed by years of cooking.
