Shen Zhimeng, an ancient book restoration expert, travels to the Great Sheng dynasty with her telepathic black cat Sanye and a mysterious fragmentary manuscript, becoming the adopted daughter of the Grand Tutor and suffering constant rejection. Using her expertise in restoring books and identifying forgeries, she opens the Relics and Remnants Studio. Her close friend Xia Ning also arrives in this world. Restoring the damaged manuscripts unlocks supernatural abilities, but the price is having one's memories held as collateral. The two meet Mo Xuanzhao of the Imperial History Academy and follow clues hidden in ancient scrolls to investigate an old case from eighteen years ago, when Yu Songyan falsified the national history and framed loyal officials. After enduring assassinations and false accusations, they present their evidence before the imperial court and restore the truth. Their final clue points to the Wordless Mausoleum in the Northern Frontier. To reclaim her sealed memories, Shen Zhimeng sets out once more.
