A dispute erupts when Hu Guifen takes fish without permission from the seven premium koi carefully raised by fish farm owner Lin Chuan. Holding a grudge, Hu Guifen joins forces with her younger brother to sneak over the wall in the middle of the night and steal the fish, then cuts the power lines to the aeration equipment, killing all seven koi. Faced with the enormous losses, she refuses to pay compensation. Her son, Hu Zhiqiang, further interferes with transportation and spreads misleading videos in an attempt to force Lin Chuan to back down. But Lin Chuan preserves the surveillance footage, contracts, and breeding records, and insists on pursuing compensation through legal channels. The court ultimately determines the losses to amount to 268,000 yuan. After the assets are legally seized and enforced, the compensation is finally recovered. Yet the koi that had received years of his painstaking care can never return to the pond.
