Lin Xuan, a modern-day Taoist trainee, accidentally wanders into a mysterious fog and travels through time to the Kingdom of Chechi in the world of Journey to the West. A heavenly seal he ordered online transforms into an official celestial talisman, granting him powerful Taoist abilities. After activating a merit system dedicated to saving the world, he resolves to change the tragic fate of the three demons, Hu Li, Yang Li, and Lu Li. When a severe drought strikes Chechi, Lin Xuan performs orthodox rain-invoking rituals to save the people, takes the three demons as his disciples, and introduces sweet potatoes to improve their livelihoods. An unexpected astral projection earns him the title of Underworld Inspector, and he takes in an orphan girl named Tao Niu. When the demon Wen Chen spreads a plague and wreaks havoc, Lin Xuan finds himself in mortal danger. He urgently summons the Great Emperor Zhenwu to slay the demon, and his accumulated merits from saving lives allow him to survive and obtain a divine sword. Together, the master and his disciples establish themselves in the Kingdom of Chechi, break free from the predetermined fate of Journey to the West, and pursue the Dao through saving the world.
