In 1999, He Canghai, a fifty-year-old veteran fishing king, sells his house and boat to pay off his son's 180,000 yuan gambling debt, only to be thrown out of his home. His daughter brings him food and helps him through his hardship. While harvesting seafood along the shore, he rescues a little golden dragon and gains the ability to identify fish and read the tides. Father and daughter join forces to run a seafood business, take on fishing tyrants, expose scams, and rescue boat workers, earning back their family fortune and dignity. At last, he protects his daughter, finds lasting love and understanding with Ye Qinglan, and reclaims his place as the Fishing King.
