Zhao Tiezhu is a sickly bachelor who has never married. One day, while gathering firewood in the mountains, he finds a five-year-old little girl named Fu Bao. On the very first day he brings her home, his stepmother kicks him out, leaving him with only a shabby thatched hut and half a sack of sorghum. That very night, his stepmother twists her ankle and knocks out two of her front teeth. Meanwhile, wild game mysteriously arrives at Zhao Tiezhu's doorstep every day. His frail health gradually improves, everything he plants yields a bountiful harvest, and everything he raises becomes valuable. Thus begins Zhao Tiezhu's daily life of spoiling his beloved daughter.
